Position Summary:
The Supervisor, Non-Sterile Compounding leads daily production across hazardous and non-hazardous non-sterile compounding operations, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of high-quality medications that directly support patient outcomes and organizational growth. This role owns frontline execution, workforce performance, process discipline, equipment readiness, and regulatory compliance while partnering cross-functionally to optimize throughput, quality, and continuous improvement. Leveraging AI as a force multiplier, the supervisor accelerates decision-making, strengthens production visibility, enhances documentation quality, predicts operational risks, and improves execution at scale. Operating within Empower's hyper-growth, highly regulated 503A and 503B environment, this leader consistently demonstrates strategic thinking, execution rigor, learning agility, operational excellence, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to safety, quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Production Leadership: Direct daily hazardous and non-hazardous non-sterile compounding activities by coordinating personnel, production schedules, materials, and equipment to consistently achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives. Utilize AI-enabled production analytics to identify bottlenecks, optimize resource allocation, anticipate workflow disruptions, and improve operational performance while maintaining compliance with established procedures and regulatory expectations.
- Execution Oversight: Supervise compounding technicians through proactive floor leadership, ensuring adherence to master batch records, standard operating procedures, Good Documentation Practices, and established production priorities. Apply AI-assisted workflow monitoring and performance insights to improve execution consistency, reduce variability, strengthen accountability, and enhance overall manufacturing effectiveness across multiple production activities and shifts.
- Resource Coordination: Coordinate staffing, equipment utilization, production sequencing, and material availability to maximize throughput while maintaining operational flexibility within a rapidly expanding manufacturing environment. Leverage predictive AI insights to improve labor planning, identify scheduling conflicts, forecast capacity constraints, and support timely delivery of customer commitments without compromising safety or product quality.
Quality and Compliance
- Compliance Excellence: Ensure full compliance with applicable USP standards, FDA regulations, DEA requirements, OSHA expectations, Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations, and internal quality systems governing non-sterile compounding operations. Employ AI-enabled compliance monitoring and documentation review to strengthen audit readiness, improve inspection outcomes, identify emerging risks, and sustain operational excellence within a highly regulated environment.
- Quality Assurance: Promote a culture where product quality, documentation accuracy, and patient safety remain uncompromised throughout every stage of compounding and packaging operations. Utilize AI-driven trend analysis to detect recurring deviations, strengthen root cause investigations, prioritize corrective actions, and continuously improve process capability while reinforcing disciplined execution across the production organization.
- Risk Management: Identify operational, quality, equipment, and compliance risks before they impact production by leading investigations, implementing corrective and preventive actions, and reinforcing sustainable process improvements. Apply AI-supported predictive analytics to recognize patterns, prioritize mitigation activities, improve decision quality, and strengthen organizational resilience within complex manufacturing operations.
People and Performance
- Team Development: Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop high-performing compounding technicians while fostering accountability, collaboration, engagement, and continuous learning. Utilize AI-supported learning platforms and performance insights to personalize development opportunities, accelerate competency growth, identify skill gaps, and prepare employees to excel within Empower's fast-paced, high-performance operating environment.
- Performance Coaching: Establish clear performance expectations, provide timely feedback, recognize achievement, and address performance concerns through consistent leadership practices aligned with organizational values and operational objectives. Leverage AI-generated workforce analytics to identify performance trends, improve coaching effectiveness, strengthen employee engagement, and support data-informed talent decisions across the production team.
- Cross Functional: Collaborate with Pharmacy, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Validation, and Operational Excellence teams to resolve production challenges, improve workflows, and successfully implement business initiatives. Utilize AI-powered collaboration and decision-support tools to accelerate issue resolution, improve communication, align priorities, and strengthen enterprise execution across multiple functional stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
- Process Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives that increase operational efficiency, eliminate waste, improve cycle times, and strengthen production reliability using Lean methodologies and structured problem-solving techniques. Apply AI-driven operational intelligence to uncover optimization opportunities, simulate process improvements, measure implementation effectiveness, and sustain measurable gains across non-sterile compounding operations.
- Equipment Stewardship: Oversee operational readiness, maintenance coordination, calibration support, and effective utilization of pharmaceutical compounding equipment to ensure reliable production performance and product quality. Utilize AI-enabled equipment monitoring and predictive maintenance insights to reduce downtime, optimize asset utilization, improve maintenance planning, and support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
- Innovation Adoption: Champion adoption of emerging technologies, digital manufacturing capabilities, automation, and AI-enabled operational tools that improve productivity, documentation quality, compliance visibility, and decision-making. Foster a culture that embraces innovation while ensuring new processes, technologies, and improvements are implemented with appropriate validation, training, governance, and regulatory compliance.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in non-sterile pharmaceutical compounding, regulated manufacturing operations, Good Documentation Practices, Lean methodologies, and quality systems, with the ability to leverage AI-enabled tools to improve operational visibility, compliance, productivity, and decision-making.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process optimization skills with experience interpreting production metrics, quality trends, and operational data while utilizing AI-powered insights to accelerate root cause analysis, risk mitigation, and continuous process improvement.
- Demonstrated knowledge of USP standards, FDA regulations, DEA requirements, OSHA regulations, Texas State Board of Pharmacy requirements, Good Documentation Practices, batch record execution, deviation investigations, CAPA processes, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, manage competing priorities, lead change initiatives, and execute with precision in a hyper-growth environment focused on quality, service, innovation, and operational excellence.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical compounding, with at least 3 years focused on non-sterile compounding in a regulated environment.
- Bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field preferred or equivalent experience.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, coaching, performance management, and technical skills, with the ability to analyze formulation challenges, optimize batch processes, and ensure seamless production while adhering to strict regulatory guidelines and developing high-performing teams with continuous improvement within fast-paced, highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Expertise in using pharmaceutical-grade equipment such as High-Efficiency Particulate Air Containment Ventilated Enclosures, ointment mills, capsule fillers, Unguators, high speed and planetary mixers, automated pneumatic fillers, blister pack machines, bulk tablet counters and check weight sorters with a solid understanding of process validation and scale-up principles.
- Required: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
- Preferred: Advanced CPhT, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Nonsterile Compounding Certificate.
