Technical Accounting and Compliance Manager
Position Summary
The Technical Accounting and Compliance Manager safeguards and scales Empower Pharmacy’s financial integrity as the organization grows in operational complexity and regulatory scrutiny. This individual contributor owns high-judgment accounting decisions, policy compliance, control effectiveness, and audit readiness. The role ensures technical conclusions are defensible, documentation is durable, and financial controls operate reliably under growth.
Operating with minimal oversight, this position builds repeatable systems that increase execution speed, accuracy, and consistency. The Technical Accounting and Compliance Manager partners cross-functionally to surface accounting implications early, enabling disciplined decision-making without slowing business momentum. Artificial intelligence is leveraged as a daily force multiplier to accelerate research, improve judgment consistency, and automate low-leverage tasks. Success means predictable audits, reduced risk exposure, scalable accounting processes, and measurable impact on Empower’s credibility, compliance posture, and long-term growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
Enterprise Technical Accounting Authority
- Own final accounting conclusions across complex areas including revenue recognition, inventory valuation, estimates, and non-routine transactions, delivering defensible positions aligned with US GAAP and Empower’s operating model.
- Translate evolving accounting guidance into practical policies and structured documentation that ensure consistent application across transactions and prevent reactive reinterpretation under scale pressure.
- Identify emerging accounting risks early, performing structured analysis in advance of close cycles or audits to eliminate surprises and protect financial integrity.
Audit, Controls, and Financial Compliance Ownership
- Serve as primary technical interface for external auditors on complex matters, preparing clear memos and evidence to achieve efficient, predictable audit outcomes.
- Design and refine controls over high-judgment areas, ensuring operational effectiveness and reliability as transaction volume increases.
- Own adherence to accounting policies and financial reporting standards, tracking remediation actions and ensuring timely closure.
Business Enablement Through Technical Clarity
- Engage cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and Legal to surface accounting implications early in new initiatives.
- Analyze contracts, pricing models, and growth strategies to determine appropriate accounting treatment and prevent downstream restatement risk.
- Communicate complex accounting matters clearly to leadership, enabling informed decisions under time pressure.
AI-Driven Execution and Automation
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate technical accounting research, summarize guidance, and identify relevant precedents while applying professional judgment.
- Develop searchable repositories of prior decisions and audit feedback to improve consistency and institutional memory.
- Identify repeatable workflows suitable for automation and partner with technology teams to streamline documentation and data extraction processes.
Building and Scaling Individual Impact
- Own complex accounting workstreams end to end, ensuring deadlines, documentation, and audit responses are delivered with discipline and precision.
- Implement structured personal operating systems that improve throughput, predictability, and output quality.
- Create reusable templates, documentation standards, and tools that increase organizational leverage and reduce rework.

Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced knowledge of US GAAP with demonstrated ability to apply complex guidance in high-growth, high-scrutiny environments.
- Strong experience with audit processes, control design, and financial compliance frameworks.
- Practical experience leveraging AI tools to accelerate research, documentation, and workflow automation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical analysis into actionable insights.

Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in public accounting, technical accounting, or complex operating environments.
- Demonstrated ownership of technical accounting conclusions and audit interactions.
- Proven ability to operate independently, manage ambiguity, and build scalable systems in high-growth settings.
