Director, Internal Communications
Position Summary
The Director, Internal Communications leads Empower Pharmacy’s internal communications strategy, ensuring employees are informed, engaged, and aligned with the company’s mission, values, and growth trajectory. This director-level role shapes how Empower communicates with its workforce across all levels and locations, reinforcing culture, trust, and clarity during periods of growth and change.
Partnering closely with Human Resources, senior leadership, and communications peers, this role serves as the connective tissue between leadership priorities and employee understanding. The Director is both strategist and operator, responsible for building scalable systems, translating complex initiatives into clear narratives, and ensuring internal and external messaging remain aligned in a highly regulated healthcare environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and executes a comprehensive internal communications strategy aligned with Empower’s business objectives, cultural values, and employer brand.
- Serves as a strategic advisor to senior leaders on internal messaging, change communications, and employee engagement.
- Translates complex business, operational, regulatory, and policy initiatives into clear, accessible internal narratives that build understanding and trust.
- Partners closely with Human Resources to support culture-building initiatives, employee engagement programs, recognition efforts, and change management communications.
- Oversees internal communication channels including newsletters, all-hands meetings, leadership updates, video communications, and collaboration platforms.
- Ensures consistency and alignment between internal communications and external messaging in partnership with media relations, content, and marketing teams.
- Leads internal storytelling initiatives that highlight Empower’s people, innovation, and impact across pharmacy, laboratory, and corporate teams.
- Establishes governance, approval processes, and editorial standards to ensure accuracy, compliance, clarity, and speed.
- Applies analytics, surveys, sentiment tools, and AI-enabled insights to measure communication effectiveness and inform strategy.
- Manages and mentors internal communications team members or contributors, setting high standards for quality, accountability, and empathy.
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. - Proven experience supporting organizational change, leadership communications, and culture transformation.
- Strong understanding of regulatory, compliance, and reputational considerations in internal communications.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and empathetically.
- Experience using analytics platforms, employee feedback tools, and AI-powered technologies to measure engagement and sentiment.
- Demonstrated ability to counsel executives and operate with judgment, composure, and discretion.

Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in internal communications, employee communications, corporate communications, or a related field.
- Required experience leading internal communications in healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceutical, or another highly regulated or high-growth environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, human resources, or a related field.
