Position Summary

The Packaging Operator II plays a key role in ensuring quality and efficiency throughout the packaging process by adhering to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This position operates both manual and automated inspection equipment, performs weight verifications, and ensures accurate labeling and packaging of vials. With responsibilities ranging from setup and maintenance of packaging lines to cross-functional collaboration and training, the operator directly supports Empower’s mission to provide innovative, affordable medications that improve lives.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Executes packaging processes strictly adhering to cGMP, SOPs, environmental and safety guidelines and any other related regulations that could apply.
  • Conduct manual visual inspection process for products and qualify them as per visual inspector qualification process while performing in-process check control during packaging operation and recording data in packaging batch record.
  • Run automated Visual inspection equipment, label printing, labeling of vials, place labeled vials into a secondary package and maintain defect test kits.
  • Perform weight verification of scales and/or balances and check calibration status of all scales, balance and equipment prior to packaging operation.
  • Sets up packaging lines, performs maintenance and troubleshooting, collaborates with cross-functional teams on area qualification, participates in training and projects, and adapts to business needs.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Employee may occasionally be required to lift up to 25 lbs.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of following detailed written or oral instructions, with strong communication and collaboration skills to achieve safety, quality, and delivery goals as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred, with an annual eye test required for visual inspection certification.

Experience and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant coursework or certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum 3 year experience in previous packaging role within pharmaceutical industry or a combination of education and experience required.
