Position Summary

The Director of Insurance Risk plays a crucial role in safeguarding Empower Pharmacy’s mission by strategically managing risk exposure, ensuring financial protection, and strengthening long-term resilience. This role requires a proactive leader who will oversee the company’s insurance programs, mitigate financial risks, and drive innovative risk management strategies tailored to the evolving pharmaceutical landscape. Through collaboration with leadership, brokers, and insurers, this individual will build a comprehensive risk framework that protects the company’s ability to produce innovative medications, expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive risk management strategy that ensures optimal insurance coverage and financial protection for the organization, considering industry-specific risks and emerging threats.
  • Leads the evaluation, selection, and negotiation of insurance policies, ensuring cost-effective solutions that align with the company’s growth and operational needs while optimizing coverage.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement enterprise-wide initiatives that strengthen risk resilience.
  • Manages claims processes, ensuring timely and effective resolution of insurance claims, including coordinating with brokers, insurers, and legal counsel to protect the company’s interests.
  • Continuously monitors industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions to anticipate potential risks and recommend strategic adjustments to the company’s insurance and risk management programs.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in insurance risk management, corporate risk, or financial risk oversight, with expertise in designing and implementing enterprise risk strategies.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, risk management, or a related field, a master’s degree.
  • Professional certifications in risk management, insurance, or finance are preferred (e.g., Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)).
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI in daily work to drive efficiency, solve problems, and enhance decision-making—adept at integrating AI-powered solutions into all workflows.
