The Microbiologist I conducts microbiological testing, ensures compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and collaborates on test method development. This role supports Empower’s mission to expand access to affordable, innovative medications.

• Conducts microbiological testing of raw materials, finished products, and environmental samples, including microbial enumeration, identification, and antimicrobial effectiveness testing.
• Assists with laboratory investigations, including root cause analysis for Out of Specification results, and implements appropriate corrective actions.
• Documents procedures, results, and observations accurately while adhering to laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards, including cGMP.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams, communicates findings clearly, and contributes to research discussions, project meetings, and the development and validation of microbiological test methods.
• Follows United States Pharmacopeia (USP) regulations, maintaining personal hygiene, garbing, and Personal Protective Equipment standards in sterile and nonsterile, hazardous and nonhazardous labs.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively, adapt to evolving priorities, and communicate technical findings effectively.
• Proficiency in microbiological testing techniques, method development, and validation, including bacterial endotoxin testing, sterility, microbial limit testing, and familiarity with compendial testing and regulatory standards such as USP, Food and Drug Administration, and cGMP.

• Minimum 1 year of microbiology laboratory experience required; pharmaceutical or compounding experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field required.
