Position SummaryThe Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Assistant ensures a safe, compliant workplace by supporting waste management, inspections, and safety programs. This role advances Empower’s mission by driving operational excellence and regulatory adherence for a healthier future.
Duties and Responsibilities- Supports waste management operations, including handling, weighing, preparing shipments, managing inventories, and signing disposal documentation.
- Maintains waste records, including Drug Enforcement Administration Controlled Substance logs and manifests, orders supplies, inspects storage, and proper labeling.
- Conducts inspections and assessments to identify hazards, ensure compliance, and supports Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordkeeping, accident reports, and respiratory fit testing.
- Investigates safety incidents, injuries, and near misses, completing documentation and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Completes and distributes incident reports and performs additional duties as assigned.
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Employee may regularly be required to lift up to 50lbs. The employee is regularly required to maneuver containers ranging in size up to 55-gallon drums.
Knowledge and Skills- Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, collaborate across all levels, and effectively manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in OSHA, Emergency Action Plan, and Department of Transportation regulations, skilled in respiratory fit tests, and advanced in using Microsoft Office Suite, Power Business Intelligence, and multimedia tools for creating training content and documentation.

- High school diploma required; Associate Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational Safety and Health required, with 2 years preferred in waste management, EHS training, and working with Velocity software.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator certification, OSHA 10 and 30 Hour certification, and a valid driver’s license.
